Curriculum Rationale

Reasons for devising a new approach to the Curriculum

The pupils in the DSP have varying degrees of needs in relation to specific areas such as key learning skills and attitudes, Emotional, Social and Behavioural difficulties, Communication skills, and Physical and Sensory development. The current approach of delivering the traditional National Curriculum to these pupils is not meeting these needs or developing their life long learning skills and attitudes that will enable them to grow and thrive on their learning journey whilst in the DSP and beyond. These pupils need a Curriculum that is based around their specific needs not one where their needs are secondary to covering objectives based on Year Groups and Key Stage expectations. Therefore it is proposed to trial a new approach to Curriculum and Learning experiences.
