Design and Technology Curriculum Intent
Design and Technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. We encourage children to use their own initiative and creativity, to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. It is a part of children’s immediate experiences and allows children to solve problems both independently and as part of a team. Our Design and Technology curriculum combines skills, knowledge, concepts and values to enable children to tackle real life experiences that will empower them to become independent and successful members of our community. We aim to create connections with other subjects such as Mathematics, Science, Computing and Art, to make learning meaningful and long-lasting. The children are encouraged to become curious innovators by experimenting with new ideas and reflecting upon their impact. Broad and balanced Design and Technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of our children.
