  • Yew Tree is a GOOD school !

Yew Tree is a GOOD School!

We are delighted to be able to officially announce that Ofsted have judged Yew Tree to be a GOOD school!

The inspection, which took place on 17th and 18th January 2023 and involved a team of 3 inspectors, evaluated the school as Good in all areas as follows: Overall Effectiveness, The Quality of Education, Behaviour and Attitudes, Personal Development & Leadership & Management.

The report praises a ' logically ordered curriculum which is implemented well by teachers and teaching assistants' and 'Specialist Teachers delivering an ambitious curriculum to pupils with SEND in the Designated Special Provision' , for ensuring that 'pupils are well prepared for their learning in high school.'

It goes on to highlight that ‘Pupils are happy and safe' and that pupils help ' to ensure that Yew Tree Primary Academy is a harmonious school' and therefore pupils 'achieve well in different areas of the curriculum.' This is made possible because of the quality of Pastoral support across school, ‘Staff help pupils to manage their emotions and feelings. Pupils’ considerate behaviour in class ensures that disruption in lessons is rare.'

Ofsted celebrated the school for its inclusion stating that 'Staff are trained well.' and ‘ Specialist staff deliver an ambitious curriculum to pupils with SEND in the Designated Special Provision.' 'Leaders identity pupils with SEND promptly' and ' work with external experts to ensure that pupils get the support that they need immediately', resulting in all pupils with SEND accessing ' the same curriculum as their peers.'

Inspectors highlighted the 'high priority' leaders place on Reading, as a strength of the school where 'pupils, and children in the early years, benefit from a well organised phonics curriculum which is implemented effectively by well trained staff. 'In particular, 'Pupils in the early stages of reading , and pupils with SEND, respond positively to the strategies that staff use.' As a result, pupils are developing their reading fluency well.'

Inspectors celebrated leaders and staff for 'improving pupils’ learning well, over recent years' as well as having ' high expectations of pupils' behaviour and achievement.'
