Welcome to Nursery - Acorns Class

Welcome to Yew Tree Nursery Class

Meet the Staff

Mrs Parkinson and Mrs Rogan

We are a friendly and approachable team who are always happy to answer your questions or help with you concerns. We appreciate that starting nursery is an important milestone for both our children and their families and we are keen to make the first step of their academic journey as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

In Nursery we love to engage our curious minds, develop our creativity and challenge our thinking. Following our school motto, we love to ‘Dream Big’ so that we can become determined, resilient, empowered, adventurous, motivated, beautifully behaved, inclusive and generous.

Our days are busy, fun and engaging, children are exposed to a play based curriculum which provides rich learning opportunities, both inside the classroom and outdoors.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum and have developed our own overview to cover the prime and specific areas of learning set out in the EYFS framework.

Reading for Pleasure: Our Foundation Stage Library

Nursery children are encouraged to have their own school book bag as we aim to establish good habits early in their school life.

We operate a Foundation Stage Library where the children are able to borrow a book of their choice every Tuesday and bring it home for you to share with them. Books should be returned the following Tuesday so your child can pick another exciting book to enjoy at home.

Our Early Years Outdoor Area

In nursery we aim to use our outdoor classroom all year round, to enhance and enrich our learning experiences and opportunities. We therefore ask for children to bring in a pair of wellingtons with their name on that they can leave in school. We also ask for children to come to school wearing a coat each day, as even on brighter days the weather can change quickly and we may be outside for an extended period of time.

Snack

Each day the children will be provided with a piece of fresh fruit and a carton of milk as part of the government scheme. We ask for a voluntary contribution of £1 per week to go towards purchasing additional snack items and cooking ingredients. This provides the children with an opportunity to taste a range of different foods including food from different cultures and to celebrate a variety of festivals throughout the year. If you would like to contribute towards this, please send a payment into school weekly or at the start of each half term, and hand it to your class teacher.
