In Reception, children continue to follow Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. This curriculum sets the standards for learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old. During their time in Reception we build upon the experiences the children will have gained at home, in Nursery and any other child care settings.
The EYFS is based upon four principles:
A Unique Child
Learning and Development
In Reception we love to engage our curious minds, develop our creativity and challenge our thinking. Following our school motto, we love to ‘DreamBig’ so that we can become determined, resilient, empowered, adventurous, motivated, beautifully behaved, inclusive and generous. Our days are busy, fun and engaging, children are exposed to a play based curriculum which provides rich learning opportunities, both inside the classroom and outdoors. Throughout the day there is an opportunity for children to complete adult directed and child initiated activities.
By offering a range of diverse and open ended experiences children will progress in the following areas:
Prime Areas of learning:
Communication and Language
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Specific Areas of Learning:
Understanding of the World
Expressive Arts and Design
Within EYFS we also pay close attention to the Characteristics of Effective Learning. These are important life skills and attitudes that we instil in all our children.
Characteristics of Effective Learning:
Playing and Exploring
Creating and Thinking Critically
